What does this testing entail?
A stress test can help evaluate coronary artery disease, exercise-induced abnormal heart rhythms and exercise capacity. Electrodes are placed on your chest and connected to monitoring equipment. After a resting EKG and blood-pressure reading, the treadmill gradually increases in speed and incline.
How should I prepare?
Bring your signed requisition, valid OHIP card and a current medication list. Arrive 15 minutes early, wear comfortable clothing and running shoes, and avoid cream or lotion on your upper body.
If you take beta blockers, consult your referring physician about whether to pause them before testing. Never stop medication without medical approval.
How long is the test?
The examination takes approximately 30 minutes.
