What does this testing entail?
A stress echocardiogram combines ultrasound images of the heart with an exercise stress test. A sonographer places a probe on your chest to record your heart’s structure, blood flow and valve function before and after activity on a treadmill.
How should I prepare?
Bring your signed requisition, valid OHIP card and a list of current medications. Arrive 15 minutes early, wear comfortable clothing and running shoes, and avoid cream or lotion on your upper body.
If you take beta blockers such as Bisoprolol, Atenolol or Metoprolol, ask your referring physician whether you should stop them 48 hours before the test. Never stop medication without your doctor’s approval.
How long is the test?
Allow approximately 60 to 90 minutes.
